CCRD strengthens project management capacity of local organisations in Lao PDR

Vientiane, Lao PDR, 2–3 July 2026 — The Center for Community Health Research and Development (CCRD) conducted a two-day project management capacity-strengthening workshop for 29 representatives from the Community Health and Inclusion Association (CHIAs) and other local organisations.

The workshop responded to the need for strong organisational and management systems to support effective delivery of community-based health programmes. It focused on three interrelated areas: project governance and implementation management; financial management and internal controls; and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL).

Participants worked through practical exercises, team-based challenges and project simulations designed to connect management principles with situations commonly encountered during implementation. Discussions examined how clear roles and decision-making processes, sound financial controls, and timely use of monitoring data can improve planning, coordination, accountability and programme performance.

The participation of representatives from organisations beyond CHIAs broadened the opportunity for peer learning and exchange within the Lao civil society sector. It also reflected the project’s commitment to locally led development by strengthening systems that local organisations can apply and sustain within their own operations.

Following the workshop, CCRD will continue to provide technical support to participating partners as they adapt and apply relevant practices in their organisational and project management processes.

The workshop was conducted under the Intercountry Partnership for Ending AIDS and Tuberculosis project. The project is supported by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) under the Partnerships for a Healthy Region initiative and works to strengthen community contributions to HIV and tuberculosis responses in Viet Nam and Lao PDR.
